The Ultimate Wine Lover’s River Cruise

True, there are wine theme river cruises that visit the wine regions of Europe. There’s the Douro in Portugal, the Wachau Valley in Austria on a Danube river cruise, the valleys of the Mosel and Rhine in Germany, not to mention the Saone and Rhone rivers. All are fantastic, but when it comes to the ultimate wine region to explore, the one that arguably tops the oenophile’s list is Bordeaux. (If you don’t know much about Bordeaux, watch this video by Viking!)

Viking River Cruises

From March through December, you can taste and indulge your way through the famous wine region. The first to sail here is Viking River Cruises on March 22, 2014 onboard the Viking Forseti; this date is nearly sold out. Sailing 7 nights and 8 days, the itinerary is as follows:

Day 8 – Bordeaux (disembark)

On this trip, visit 3 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, enjoy wine tasting ashore and onboard, and learn from a master sommelier “how to say it in French” as well as pairing the right wine with food. Here’s what you can expect on this journey.

Space availability for 2014 up until November is nearly gone at this time, so if you’re planning on this cruise with Viking in November or December of this year, it’s best to make your booking soon or you may have to wait until next year. Speaking of which, 2015 dates are available.

Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection

Uniworld is also having an inaugural sailing season here from April to November. The first sailing is on April 6, 2014 aboard the River Royale, but like Viking there’s not much space left on the ship for this date or the rest of the year. There’s more availability come the tail end of the season. The 7 night, 8 day itinerary takes you to:Uniworld in Bordeaux wine region
